Me and Igor had stayed in this studio for hours, we had a lockout so we were there from 10 in the morning on the first day, until 10 in the morning the next, and we wanted to stay longer. This guy was like ‘Go home! Please go home!’ I think when we’re in something, it can probably be quite destructive for people who lead actually sociable lives.”

Emma Swann chats to Daughter about perfectionism, quitting jobs, and their forthcoming debut album ‘If You Leave’.

“Is it possible to ‘sell out’ anymore? Yes completely, but when the goalposts have moved so dramatically and some bands and artists entire being is a fucking sell-out, then I don’t think anyone would begrudge us our music being used on an advert, so long as it’s not McDonalds or Nike or Catholicism.”

“It was really funny. I was so angry, and needed to release something, it was like..hrrrrrrrrmph. The whole thing was an explosion. I literally hadn’t thought about the consequence, of what people might think, or anything. Which I know is quite weird, because it is so different, but because it was what I was doing at the time, it really felt like what I’d been doing every day. It was hilarious… ”

Kate Nash is back, and she’s got reasons to be bitter.

“You could level the criticism that Nash’s subject matter hasn’t changed since ‘Foundations’; she’s still singing about rubbish relationships and being a bit bitter. But as she dips her toes into a new territory musically, you can’t help but applaud her bravery.”
